Welcome.....

..........to PenguinZone, a site for anyone with an interest in the Linux operating system. New & experienced users alike will find links & resources for all thier linux needs. Haven't tried linux yet? Unsure which distribution would suit your needs? All the information you need & more will be available here. Look around & learn.

25 April 2000 Screenshot Added
OK, I have been very lazy & haven't done a thing to this site in months! Things are getting back on track so things WILL start happening. First thing is a screenshot I took of my current desktop. Here I describe what I have running & a few of the features of linux. check it out.

What You Will Find Here
..... Step-By-Step Guides to help you get linux up & running. Resources & tools to optomize your system. Links to some of the best linux sites as well as many other sites of general interest. Can't find that bit of information you need? Ask on our NEW PenguinZone Forum where our visitors have the chance to help each other with any problems they may have.

What You WON'T Find Here!
.....Windows bashing & RTFM responses to your questions. While this IS a linux site, some people feel more comfortable using Windows for some of thier day to day computing. This is freedom of choice & is quite often dictated by availability of software they use (games for example). A lot of people use both Linux & Windows products & we see no problems with that. These pages were written using Arachnophilia, a Windows based HTML editor. Why? Because we like it! That's why you will find plenty of pages dealing with getting Linux & other OS's to live together.

.....RTFM is a popular response to questions on some forums. While Linux comes with documentation for almost anything you could wish to do, it is quite often extremely confusing to the new (& experienced) user. This type of answer is no help to anyone, & often an indication that the person responding doesn't know the answer anyway. We do recommend you look at the documentation available, as it is quite extensive, but if you don't understand it, feel free to ask.

Help Us To Help Others
.....Succeeded in getting your system to do something that you couldn't find easy to understand instructions for? Let us know what you did & how you did it & we will try to include it here to help others. We need linux users to contribute thier knowledge & experience to assist other users. Our Help Us page explains how to send us details of your success & what it means if you do contribute.

.....We need web space & bandwidth to help us grow. This site is currently hosted by Fortune City, & while we appreciate being able to have this site at no more cost to us than having a banner on the top of our page, space & bandwidth limitations restrict growth & the amount of information/resources we are able to provide. If you can help us by providing space or sponsorship to allow us to set up our own server, please visit our Help Us page.
